De Sound Devices MixPre-3 II is een field recorder. Met deze recorder kun je tot drie externe microfoons koppelen en opnemen, maar bovendien ook een stereo mix tot 32-bit/192kHz opnemen.
Met een max bit diepte van 32bit, kun je in post veel qua het bewerken van geluid. Ieder van de drie kanalen kan gemonitord worden en individueel aangepast worden met de fysieke draaiknoppen.Verder heeft de recorder een interne timecode generator, maar ook polarity, low-cut en pan controls. Bovendien kun je naast het opnemen met een SD-kaart ook een backup recording maken via een USB thumb drive.
De recorder kan van stroom worden voorzien met de meegeleverde 4x AA batterijen of door netvoeding. Ten slotte weegt de recorder slechts 0.5kg (zonder batterijen) en zijn de afmetingen 144 x 36 x 110 mm.
