La Canon R5C est une caméra de cinéma plein format très compacte avec une monture RF. Il est doté d'un capteur CMOS de 36 x 24 mm et peut filmer des vidéos 8k jusqu'à 30 ips et au ralenti jusqu'à 120 ips en 4k et peut même atteindre 8K 60p avec une alimentation externe. Il peut également filmer en Cinema RAW Light 12 bits (LT / ST / HQ) et en XF-AVC et HEVC avec 4:2:2 10 bits. Il peut prendre des photos de 45 mégapixels et possède une sensibilité ISO allant jusqu'à 51 200.

L'appareil dispose d'un autofocus très efficace grâce à la technologie CMOS AF à double pixel avec Eye AF et EOS iTR AF X. Il est également doté de Canon Log 3 pour une gamme dynamique impressionnante. Il peut filmer en Raw et Cinema Raw Light. Et le nouveau système de refroidissement donne la possibilité de filmer à long terme.

L'appareil photo combine la stabilisation électronique et la stabilisation de l'objectif pour obtenir des images d'une grande fluidité.

Il dispose également de deux emplacements pour carte mémoire, un pour CFexpress type B et un pour SD/SDHC/SDXC (UHS-II). Il dispose également de raccordements pour le timecode, le microphone 3,5 mm, le micro-HDMI, la synchronisation flash et l'USB-C.
