Kinefinity Mavo LF Cine Primes

The Kinefinity Mavo LF Cine primes have been in our assortiment for some while now. They are an affordable alternative for our Canon CN-E primes and Zeiss CP.2’s. Recently Ted Heil (CUZZO Films) used our Mavo primes and gave us his opinion on the lenses.

As regular customers of Budgetcam and meanwhile having worked with several lenses, we can say that the Mavo LF Cine primes are awesome!

The very first thing that caught our attention was that the housing of the lenses are very robust. These lenses feel like the real deal. In addition, the lens caps are not only ideal because of their ruggedness, but also because they are magnetic.

Focussing with these lenses is smooth like butter. This may feel unfamiliar to beginner filmmakers and requires some getting used to.

Good to know that when opening up the lenses diaphragm, the lenses have a round and natural bokeh, without purple and green artifacts. Even at their maximum diaphragm, which is impressive.

With every cinema lens that we use, we accept the challenge of trying to balance it on our DJI Ronin S. Unfortunately these lenses are too long which makes the setup too front-heavy to balance. In short, pistol grip gimbals will not cut it. Furthermore, it is rather difficult to change lenses in the dark. You will need light to do this, which makes it a two man job to switch lenses.

Conclusion

These lenses are awesome and definitely worth renting more often. When we do, we will definitely rent a Movi Pro and flash light!

By the way, if any of you manage to balance one of these lenses on a Ronin S, we from CUZZO Films are very curious as to how!
