The lens belongs to the S-line of Nikon lenses. This means that the lens is of high optical quality. As a result, the lens is built up of 21 elements in 18 groups, has a 9-bladed diaphragm which results in round and soft bokeh. In addition, the lens has six extra-low dispersion elements, one fluorite element and one short-wave refractive index element.
